What To Expect

Taking the first step toward support is a powerful move—and we're here to guide you through it. Whether you're new to counseling or returning after time away, knowing what to expect can help you feel more comfortable and confident.

Finding the Right Fit

You deserve a counselor who feels like the right match. It's okay to ask questions and explore your options. Many people find it helpful to have a brief phone call with a counselor before scheduling a full session—just to see if it feels like a good connection.

Your first session—whether in-person, by phone, or video—is a chance to learn more, set goals, and get a feel for the process. There’s no long-term commitment required.

During Your First Session

During your first session, your counselor will help you feel at ease, discuss your goals and concerns, and explain what to expect in future sessions. While every counselor has their own style, the overall goal remains the same: to support USPS employees and their families in understanding and managing challenges.

Questions Are Welcome

Not sure what to ask? Here are a few ideas:

What’s your experience with my type of concern?
How do you typically structure sessions?
What kind of support can I expect?

Feel free to take notes or bring questions—it’s your time, and we want you to feel empowered.

If It’s Not the Right Fit

That’s okay. Counseling is personal, and finding the right fit matters. If it doesn’t feel right, let us know—we’ll help you connect with another provider who better suits your needs.
